Imelda Papin Receives Backlash For Participating in Chinese Embassy’s Song

IMELDA PAPIN – Veteran singer Imelda Papin faces backlash for participation in the Chinese Embassy’s ‘Iisang Dagat‘ music video.

Following a previous article, the Chinese Embassy Manila released a music video titled ‘Iisang Dagat‘ on their Facebook Page. The song cheers the Philippines and China’s partnership amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian wrote the lyrics of the song. Camarines Sur Vice Governor Imelda Papin is among the performers who was featured in the music video.

The controversial music video also featured the statements of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque, and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Chief Teddy Locsin and other Filipino government officials. The video has garnered 7K reactions, 3.1K comments, and 3.2K shares as of this writing.

The song gained lots of negative reactions from Filipino netizens. ‘Iisang Dagat‘ was sung mostly in Mandarin while some parts were in Tagalog.

The chorus goes, “Ikaw at ako’y nasa iisang dagat ang iyong pagmamahal aking kasama. Ang iyong kamay ay hindi ko bibitawan, maaliwalas na kinabukasan ating masisilayan”.
