Presidential Adviser Wants PH to Shift to Barangay-Based Quarantine

Presidential Adviser Joey Concepcion Pushes for Barangay-Based Quarantine

Presidential Adviser on Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion wants the Philippines to shift to barangay-based quarantine to save the country’s economy.

On Tuesday (March 31, 2020), the economic adviser to President Rodrigo Duterte said that public transportation, marketing, and construction works should immediately resume after the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Concepcion said that if the Luzon quarantine succeeds the government should implement village-based quarantine to prevent the spread of coronavirus as the operations of private businesses and government offices resume.

Duterte’s economic adviser stressed the need for restarting the Philippine economy while fighting the virus. The presidential adviser also attended a meeting with other economic managers and business leaders to discuss the post lockdown scenario.

“The goal really is while we have to be guarded against the virus, we have to start reviving the economy, we might kill the virus but we might die because the economy is floundering. That’s the biggest challenge we’re facing right now,” Concepcion said.

The government official also said that the Inter-Agency Task Force should clearly instruct the rules and regulations on the proposed barangay-based quarantine.
