Surigao del Sur Hit by Earthquake with 4.1 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.1 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur, February 14, 2020.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Surigao del Sur. At 09:43 pm, February 14, 2020, Cortes was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 09.34°North, 126.43°East – 027 km North 76° East of Cortes. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 016 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in a bulletin that there are no expected damages caused by the quake. There are no expected aftershocks as well. Also, no intensity was recorded of the said quake.
