China Orders Mass Slaughter Of All Domesticated Pets
CHINA ORDERS SLAUGHTER OF PETS – Amidst the growing number of cases and deaths due to the coronavirus outbreak that started in Wuhan, people are now in a state of fear and panic.

According to an article from Euro Weekly News, authorities around China had reportedly ordered residents to get rid of their pets. If they fail to do so, they would risk them getting culled.
This was following reports that animals could be infected with the coronavirus that had already caused at least 426 deaths globally and had infected over 20,000.
Some residents have already started to throw out their pets from their apartment windows because of this reason. Several cats and dogs were seen dead on the street due to a long fall.
As per the report, a village in Hebei had urged households to “deal with” their pets. They were given an ultimatum of five days. Meanwhile, another community in Shaanxi demanded residents to dispose of their pets immediately.
Previously, experts from China suggested that pets “might” also get infected with the coronavirus. This led to more fears that having pets around could spread and escalate the virus further.
The number of pets that would have to be culled was estimated to be in the millions. However, the World Health Organization stated that there is no evidence that pets like dogs or cats can be infected.
The virus does not have any impact on the health of animals and no particular event has been reported in any species.
But, this was refuted by Li Lanjuan, an epidemiologist and member of the Chinese team formed to fight the new coronavirus. According to her, the 2019-nCov could be transmitted from mammal to mammal. Although, she did not say if there have been cases of infected pets.
