According to SunStar, Provincial Disaster Management Program Zeaphard Caelian stressed that Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island will not be affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano.

Caelian added that Kanlaon’s alert level was lowered to alert level zero by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) adding that the two volcanoes have separate activies. The volcano is classified as the third active volcano in the country.

The Negros Island volcano is the island’s highest point and also the highest in the entire Visayas, with an elevation of 2,465 meters above sea level. Its latest occurred in 2016.

Acting Governor Jeffrey Ferrer earlier alerted local government units surrounding the volcano adding that these LGUs have crisis management teams to act immediately in case it erupts.

The city of La Carlota and the towns of La Castellana and Moises Padilla are found at the foot of Mt. Kanlaon.

As per the report, Taal Volcano remained on Alert Level 4 on Tuesday, this could mean that explosive eruption is possible within hours to days.

Taal has been continuously erupting, which is characterized by magmatic and hydrovolcanic activity. Lava fountains spew 800-meter tall dark gray steam-laden plumes that drifted to the general southwest.

Flights were partially resumed, as announced by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that Taal’s main crater has resumed blasting lava into the air that generated steam-laden plumes of up to two kilometers.

Volcanic ash can cause irritation and breathing problems especially among old people and children. Long-term exposure may be harmful to respiratory health.
