Antipolo City Pedestrian Lanes Transform Into 3D Murals

3D Pedestrian Lanes In Antipolo Helps Spread Road Safety Awareness

3D PEDESTRIAN LANES – The 3D pedestrian lanes in Antipolo City helped spread road safety awareness after the rising number of pedestrian-related accidents in the city.

Accidents can happen anytime and anywhere but the public road is the most common location where they happen. In the Philippines, thousands of lives were taken each year due to road accidents.

It happened not only because of the numerous vehicles running but also due to the animals or people crossing the road or using the sidewalk. Based on a report from Philkotse, about two children die in Metro Manila each day due to road accidents.

According to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) data, 1.35 million people died because of road accidents in 2018. Philippines’ statistics recorded 12K Pinoys died on the road per year.

Because of this, the government and the non-government organizations are looking for a way to lower or hopefully zero out the cases. They are currently prioritizing the strict implementation of jaywalking and wearing of helmets.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, artists in Antipolo decided to level up their pedestrian lanes into 3D murals. Artist Trip Martinez said it’s their way of sharing their talents through painting the lanes with various art designs after the rising of numbers of accidents in the city.

From January to December 2019, the Antipolo Local Government Units (LGU) has recorded 4,367 pedestrian-related accidents.

“Ito na lang yung as an artist maitutulong mo sa tao. Yung creation as in makaktulong, may purpose,” said Martinez.

According to the report, the company behind the project said the 3D pedestrian lanes also came with a powerful message. “By using art as a medium and the road as the canvas, it conveys a powerful message: that addressing social concerns can be fun and engaging while remaining purposeful at its core,” said People Branding Head Paul Garcia.
