Here’s How Christmas Trees Became A Tradition

CHRISTMAS SEASON – This Christmas season, find out how Christmas trees became a holiday tradition.

More than half of the people in the world said they love the Christmas season. The magical time of the year is about spending time with our friends and loved ones.

Filipinos like to celebrate the season for as long as possible. Some of them started decorating their homes with lights and Christmas trees with ornaments as early as September.

Based on a report from Times Magazine, the real origin of the Christmas Tree started in Germany during the Middle Ages. Historian and journalist Judith Flanders did some research about the biography of Christmas. She featured the origin of the Christmas tree in her book titled “Christmas: A Biography.”

In 1419, a group of people in Freiburg set up a tree and adorn it with apples, tinsel, gingerbread, and flour-paste wafers. They are celebrating the feast day of Adam and Eve, the date fell on the Christmas Eve. The tree they set up represented the ‘Tree of Knowledge’

According to the report, the oldest Christmas Tree market is located in Strasbourg in Alsace. The first indoor Christmas tree was decorated with roses, wafers, apples, and other sweet goods said Flander.

In the 15th century, the demand for the famous tree was so high and it then became famous in the United States. German immigrants in Texas ornamented their trees with red pepper swags, moss, cotton, popcorn, and pecans.
