Ruru Madrid Admits Being an INC Member Forced Him to Turn Down Major Opportunities
RURU MADRID – As one of GMA Network’s top stars, Ruru Madrid revealed that being an INC member comes with challenges that extend beyond the spotlight.
Ruru Madrid opened up about the unique challenges he faces as a Kapuso actor while remaining committed to his faith as a member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC). During his guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Tuesday, August 4, the actor candidly shared how balancing his career in the entertainment industry with his religious beliefs has not always been easy.
According to Ruru, there have been moments when he had to carefully evaluate projects before accepting them to ensure that they would not conflict with his faith. While acting requires versatility and the willingness to portray different characters, he explained that he also carries the responsibility of being a role model, especially to fellow members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo who support his work.
“I’m going to be honest, Tito Boy, of course challenging siya sa pagiging isang aktor. I mean, siyempre bilang isang aktor hindi ka lang naman umaarte,” he said.
He added, “Marami rin pong mga tao na naglo-look up sa ‘yo or nagsisilbing inspirasyon ka. At marami po sa mga tagahanga ko ay miyembro po ng Iglesia ni Cristo.”
Ruru acknowledged that not everyone may fully understand the nature of an actor’s profession, saying, “So siyempre, hindi naman po sa lahat ng pagkakataon ay mauunawaan po nila kung ano po yung ginagawa namin bilang isang aktor.”
To address possible concerns before production begins, the actor revealed that he makes it a point to communicate openly with producers and directors regarding scenes that may conflict with his religious beliefs.
“So ang ginagawa ko na lang po, bago pa po namin gawin ang isang proyekto, magkakaroon po kami ng let’s say, para mag-usap-usap kami ng production, mag-usap-usap kami ng directors kung ano po yung mga hangga’t maaari maiwasan,” he explained.
Despite these discussions, Ruru emphasized that he does not see his faith as a hindrance to his career.
“Pero, I wouldn’t say na limitasyon siya kasi puwede naman po yun ipagpaalam.”
He also admitted that there have been opportunities he willingly turned down because of his religious convictions.
“Pero totoo ‘yan, marami na pong mga bagay na natanggihan ko just because of my faith… Bawal kaming mag-endorso ng alak, bawal kaming mag-endorso ng sugal.”
Ruru’s honesty highlighted the realities of maintaining personal beliefs while working in an industry that often demands flexibility. His approach, however, demonstrates that open communication and mutual understanding with production teams can help bridge the gap between artistic responsibilities and personal convictions.
