HONG KONG – DFA Urges Filipinos To Avoid Protest Areas

HONG KONG – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) encouraged Filipinos in Hong Kong to be cautious or avoid the areas where protests are held.

In a previous report about the region, it is currently in crisis as mobs of people wearing white shirts brought violence as they attack random people in various areas. Netizens called it as a “purge”. Eventually, protesters appear in affected areas

Filipinos reached their concerns and prayers through social media with the hashtag #PrayforHongKong.

Recently, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) released an advisory on Tuesday (July 30), strongly urging the Filipinos residing or travelling to avoid areas filled with protesters. They were further advised to put their safety first and take all necessary precautions.

According to GMA News, DFA further urged the public to stay alert for updates on the government’s pronouncements and heed the advice from local authorities.

The agency further said to monitor developments and to trust legit media entities and news sources, further adding that they must be keen on recognizing with respect to information collected via social media.

The Consulate General in Hong Kong is reported to be responsible for maintaining open communication lines within the local government in regard to the situation and will provide the correlating notification to the public.
