China Donates P10 Million To Aid Victims of Batanes Quake

CHINA – The Chinese embassy will be donating 10 million pesos for the victims of Batanes earthquake.

The beautiful island of Batanes was devastated by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake last Saturday, July 27, 2019. Mayor Raul De Sagon said several people lost their lives after the powerful shake.

Most of the victims were buried alive inside their houses that are made of limestones without metal reinforcement.

A few days ago, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited the island and promised that he will allot P40 million for the reconstruction of the hospital. Medical facilities are much needed in the area since lots of residents got injured after the earthquake.

The 74-year-old president also ordered the Philippine Coast Guard to patrol around Batanes island.

“Just to assure that those islands will remain ours, kasi mahirap na ngayon,” he said.

Based on a report from CNN, the Batanes quake left 9 people dead and 64 others injured. The cops said 2616 people are currently staying in tents in the plaza and relying on donated goods. Most of them are terrified of the aftershocks.

Disaster management officials said 266 houses, 2 health facilities, 2 schools, and some road sections were destroyed by the quake. All of that is worth P47 million.

According to the report, the Chinese embassy in Manila gave a statement saying they will be donating P10 million for the Batanes quake victims.

“The embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Philippines believes that, under the strong leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte Roa Duterte and the government of the Philippines, the Philippine people will overcome the disaster and rebuild their homeland as soon as possible,” it said.
