Duterte Promises P40 Million To Build New Hospital for Batanes Quake Victims
BATANES QUAKE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte vowed to allot P40 million for new hospitals and victims of Batanes quake.
On Saturday, two powerful earthquakes hit the Northern Islands of the Philippines. The most affected areas are the villages in Itbayat, Batanes.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 6.4 magnitude quake on the area around 7:38 in the morning.
In a previous article, the town mayor, Raul De Sagon, said several residents from Barangay Santa Maria in Itbayat died due to the powerful shake. He said those people died after they got buried by the debris in their houses.
The patients were forced to transfer to the plaza because the local hospital building is old and could possibly collapse due to the shakes. Sagon also asked for help from the provincial capital.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he will allot P40 million for the Batanes quake victims on Sunday, July 28.
The 74-year-old chief executive went to Basco, Batanes and meet with their local authorities. He pledged that he will provide that amount for the reconstruction of the hospital.
“I’ll give you the P40 million. I hope you put it to good use,” he said.
According to the report, President Rodrigo Duterte instructed all the local officials in Batanes to build a clinic A.S.A.P. as their new hospital is being constructed.
Based on the report, the Davaoeño president also ordered the Philippine Coast Guard to keep watch in Batanes islands.
“Just to assure that those islands will remain ours, kasi mahirap na ngayon,” Duterte said.
