YouTube Needs New Rules And Laws, Says Chief
YOUTUBE – Chief Executive Officer Lean Mohan recently said that YouTube needs a new set of rules, laws and a sort of regulatory regime.
According to GMA News, the number two head said that the giant video-sharing platform is trying its best to remove those who will abuse it to promote negative aspects such as hate speech, racism, violence and disinformation. He further said that the platform has emerged itself to became a huge city, further stressing that like in any huge cities it requires new rules, laws and a regulatory regime.
Along with other social media platforms, the rising public pressure on the platform nudged them to test and reduce the negative aspects in case the government imposes the platforms with added regulations.
Google, according to various reports, reached a multimillion-dollar settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission on rumored violations of children’s data privacy laws on the video-sharing platform.
As per the report, Youtube, as well as other platforms, are observed to be the haven for conspiracy theorists who denied the Holocaust from the World War II or the 9/11 attacks, also included are the Nazi and white supremacist groups like the Klu Klux Klan or the KKK.
Mohan further said that they must adjust in order to ensure that these negative aspects will not grow worse in the platform.
The company behind the video-sharing platform recently announced in June that it will ban videos that promote or glorify racism and discrimination, as well as denying recorded violent events like the Holocaust.
Mohan further noted that every month, two billion users come to the platform, thus, they take responsible as a platform.
