The massive crowds of customers and vending stalls usually become hinderances and are obstructive for most roads not only in Manila but also other cities across the country. Wanting to address this issue, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno devised a plan to clear the roads of vendors.

The newly-elected mayor was also involved in rumors that he and former-mayor Erap Estrada are keeping distance from each other.

According to Moreno, the bribes were huge amounts ranging from P5 million a day to a hefty P1.8 billion a year just to get him to let go of his vow to clear the roads in Manila of vendors.

During a press briefing held at the Manila City Hall last Tuesday, Moreno disclosed information about the briberies. He explained:

“May nagpaparating lang sa akin na mensahe: P5 million daw a day, P150 million a month, P1.8 billion a year. Ngayon, whether it is true or not, I don’t know. Para dating gawi.”

[Someone just delivers the message to me: P5 million daily, P150 million per month (and) P1.8 billion annually. Now, whether it is true or not, I don’t know. Its just like old times.]

Despite the briberies, Moreno maintained his stance and said he will stick to his promise. (Referring to his plan to clear out the roads)

He also expressed his persistency in pursuing his plans saying:

“We will be consistent, persistent in putting order in the City of Manila.”

“Ibabalik ko ang kalsada sa mga taga-Maynila.”

[I will give the streets back to the residents of Manila]

This is according to an article from Inquirer.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
