DILG Ready To Train Over 17K Newly Elected Local Government Officials

DILG – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will provide training to the newly elected local government officials.

Winners the 2019 mid-term election can now sleep tightly after they are proclaimed in their town or city.

These politicians are chosen by the people to hold or rule their place. The voters relied the fate of their children to these elected officials.

Based on a report from Philstar, there are a total of 81 governors and vice governor, 780 provincial board members, 145 city mayors and vice mayors, 1,628 city councilors, 1,489 town mayors and vice mayors, and 11, 916 municipal councilors were elected during the 2019 election.

DILG will provide training to these newly-elected government officials to become effective leaders in their cities or municipalities.

According to the report, DILG spokesman Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the newly-proclaimed politicians are mandated to undergo training at DILG’s Local Government Academy.

“Whether you are a newbie or veteran in the local government arena, the DILG under the leadership of Secretary Eduardo Año is prepared to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills in governance to enable you to deal with the critical challenges of your office,” said Malaya

Jonathan Malay said the agency are just waiting for the official list of winners to finally begin the training.

“We are just waiting for the proclamation of winners in all provinces, cities and municipalities before we will officially commence the NEO (newly elected officials) program within this month,” he said.

Based on the report, DILG spokesperson said they can’t wait to train new politicians like Pasig City mayor-elect Vico Sotto.

“I know they have lots of plans for their constituents. The DILG is here to train and guide them so they can better serve the people.”

With the elections now behind us, we assure you of the DILG’s commitment to guide both the reelected and first-time local officials on how they can best serve their constituents,” he added.
