Surigao del Norte Hit by Earthquake with 3.5 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 3.5 magnitude quake in Surigao del Norte today, April 27, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Yesterday morning, a 4.3 magnitude quake has also rocked the Ilocos Region and a 5.5 magnitude quake in Surigao del Norte.

Phivolcs recorded that at 03:07 pm today, April 27, 2019, General Luna in Surigao del Norte was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs stated that the quake was located at 09.63°North, 126.81°East – 073 km South 77° East of General Luna. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 005 kilometers.

According to Phivolcs, this is still an aftershock of the previous 5.5 magnitude quake that hit Surigao del Norte yesterday.

Based on the report, Phivolcs noted that no aftershocks and damages may be expected from the said quake that hit Surigao del Norte.
