Meanwhile, the very recent 6.8 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami warning from Indonesia’s disaster agency sending residents fleeing to higher ground. The warning was announced for residents in Morowali district, where they are advised keep distance from the coast.

The earthquake hits Indonesia at a shallow depth of 17 kilometers off the coast of Sulawesi Island. This is also where the 7.5 magnitude occurred around the City of Palu.

US Geological Survey (USGS) also reported three light to moderate aftershocks following the earthquake. This is according to an article from Manila Bulletin.

USGS also stated that the damages could be because of the poorly built structures.

The quake happened in Luwuk city in Banggai district, Central Sulawesi, where the resident Hapsah Abdul Madjid reported that people were panicking and trying to flee to higher ground after the tsunami warning.

This is also where one person tried to flee, but fell to his death. The victim was identified as Daeng Pasang, a 66-year-old resident. Kompass.com confirmed.

The reasons behind the damages could also be attributed to the area being ‘disaster prone’. This is claimed considering the previous frequent occurrence of earthquakes in the area.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We will post updates as soon as we got them.
