Sandiganbayan Vs. Imelda Marcos Shows Justice System Is Working, Says Malacañang Palace
JUSTICE SYSTEM – The decision of Sandiganbayan against Imelda Marcos proves that justice system is working and impartial, said the Malacañang Palace.
Following up in the previous article, where Ilocos Rep. Imelda Marcos was found guilty by Sandiganbayan for graft. The First Lady allegedly violated the Republic Act No. 3019, Section 3(h).
However, her daughter Imee Marcos gave no comment of the matter. This is because they haven’t received the copy of the decision.
Regardless, the Malacañang Palace said that this case proves that there is a working and impartial justice system that favors no one.
A report in GMA News, states that the Executive Branch is not in the business of exerting undue interference or influence in the affairs of another separate and independent branch of the government, as said by Pres. Spokesperson Salvador Panelo. He further added that they respect the decision of the Sandiganbayan finding Marcos guilty of the seven out of ten cases filed against her.
Furthermore, Panelo said that they treat the decision as a good reminder to all public servants that public office is a public trust and that we are all accountable to the people they serve. He also noted that public officials must carry out their duties not just with professionalism and fidelity but most importantly, but also with integrity.
As per the report, Imelda Marcos was charged with 10 counts of graft for having pecuniary interests and participation in the management of several non-government organizations in Switzerland from 1978 to 1984, as stated in the case information in 1991.
Marcos, who is running for governor in the upcoming 2019 elections, however, can still appeal the ruling.
