Supermarket Employee Paul Mattew Tanglao Released Over A Week After Arrested For Stealing, Eating Corned Beef

The supermarket employee who got arrested for stealing, eating a can of corned beef inside the store has been already released after detention.

Previously, an SM Hypermarket employee identified as Paul Mattew Tanglao has been arrested for stealing and eating a can of corned beef worth P31.50 due to extreme hunger.

Tanglao has been charged with qualified theft after confessing the crime and admitting his mistakes. He was caught the security guard who immediately reported it to the supervisor.

The 21-year-old employee was then accosted and brought to the police station and detained for more than a week.

The grocery clerk said that he was just really hungry and had no money during that time, prompting him to steal the canned good to satisfy his hunger.

The clerk also draws sympathy from the netizens and questioned the amount of salary paid to the hypermarket’s employee.

On Monday (December 18, 2017), Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David has also expressed his willingness to repay the employer of Tanglao even over a hundred times.

On Monday afternoon, Tanglao has been already released after his mother posted bail of P2, 000, according to PO2 Kenneth Campos of Sta. Ana police station in Manila.
