No Jeepney Fare Increase Until February 2018 As LTFRB Reschedules Hearing

No Jeepney Fare Increase Until February 2018

Good news for commuters, there will be no jeepney fare increase until February 2018 as LTFRB reschedule fare hike hearing.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has rescheduled the hearing for proposed jeepney fare increase in February next year.

The agency’s decision came after various transport groups nationwide ask more time to collect receipts to prove their claims that cost of spare parts increased.

Last September 2017, Pasang Masda leading the five transport groups filed a petition to LTFRB requesting for a P2 increase on the basic jeepney fare to allegedly help drivers and operators cope with increasing cost of spare parts and fuel.

Pasang Masda together with the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Fejodap), Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (Acto), Liga ng Transport Operators ng Pilipinas (LTOP), and the Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Atodap) are the transport groups seeking a fare hike.

The transport groups explained that the price of the spare parts rose by at least P300, while the price diesel has increased by more than P2 per liter.

However, LTFRB Chair Martin Delgra III noted that fare hike is not necessary anymore since the government will implement the jeepney modernization program next year.

The basis [for the fare hike] may no longer be there once the new jeepneys are there,” Delgra said quoted by Inquirer.
