NBI To Investigate P3.5-B Dengue Vaccine Scam As ordered By DOJ
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the P3.5 billion dengue vaccine scam.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre has ordered the NBI to investigate the possible anomaly committed by the Department of Health (DOH) on implementing the P3.5 billion worth of dengue vaccine “Dengvazxia” under the Aquino administration.
The order came after the negative effects of the dengue vaccine were discovered. The vaccine injected to about 733, 000 children could cause severe diseases to the recipient who did not previously infected by the virus.
Aguirre said that the investigation aims to find out if there’s an anomalous act or irregularities committed by the members of the previous administration who were responsible for purchasing the vaccine.
The justice department will also investigate if Sanofi’s warning was immediately issued to the public. Aguirre also called out the parents of the children injected by Dengvaxia to immediately report if the negative effects of the vaccine occurred.
Meanwhile, Malacañang Palace assured the public that the government officials involved in the anti-dengue vaccine controversy will face corresponding sanctions and penalties, according to Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque.
Roque said that the DOJ was already making legal action regarding the Dengvaxia issue. He also said that DOH is now working with the Department of Education (DepEd) to identify the public school students who received the vaccine from Region 3, 4-A, and National Capital Region.
The presidential spokesman also explained that the public should not panic because the vaccine is not deadly.
DOH spokesman Asec. Lyndon Lee-Suy also said that they are willing to undergo any investigation regarding the purchase of Dengvaxia vaccine.
“Iyong sinasabi na severe dengue cases among those na na-identify ng Sanofi, walang namatay doon. World Health Organization to release recommendation within the next two weeks,” Lee-Suy said quoted by Philstar.
