The European Parliament called for the immediate release of Sen. De Lima.
EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT – The European Parliament calls on the government to release Sen. Leila De Lima who is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
Based on a recent news report in Phil Star Global, a part of the European Union’s legislature, the EP, tagged the lady Senator as an advocate of human rights.
In a resolution, it called for the government to release Sen. De Lima. According to the EP, the lady Senator must be secured well while she is being detained.
Moreover, based on the report, the EP calls for the government as well to put an end to “any further acts of harassment” against the lady Senator and put down “politically motivated charges” that were filed against the neophyte lawmaker.
According to the news report, the EP also condemned the extrajudicial killings (EJK) in the Philippines that are related to the war on drugs campaign.Ā Furthermore, it also calls for the investigation of the deaths.
Meanwhile, it also expressed condemnation towards drug abuse and drug trafficking.
Instead of going after the drug users and the small-time dealers of illegal drugs, the EP expressed a call on the government to give focus on “trafficking networks and drug barons” based on the report.
Meanwhile, the Duterte administration has stood firm on the stand that it does not tolerate EJK in the country.
Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has continuously expressed support to the security forces who will take the leaves of drug suspects when they try to resist and spark threats of danger to the lives of the authorities.
Reportedly, one of the staunch critics of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs campaign is Sen. De Lima. She was even given an international award for standing up against the Chief Executive.
The lady Senator’s name has been one of the loudest names in the field of politics since she took the senatorial position.
Currently, she is facing allegations of her involvement in the supposed drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison way back when she was the Secretary of the Department of Justice.
Based on a previous news report, it was the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 204 which issues the warrants of arrest against the newbie Senator, her former lover, driver, and bodyguard Ronnie Dayan, and Rafael Ragos.
She surrendered herself to the arresting team a day after the warrant of arrest was released and she was brought to Camp Crame.
