FVR Resigns As Special Envoy Of The Philippines To China

FVR was appointed by Duterte as the special envoy of the Philippines in China, shortly after he assumed office in July.

The Malacañan Palace has not yet received the official letter of resignation of Former President Fidel Valdez Ramos (FVR) as special envoy of the Philippines to China.

According to Secretary Martin Andanar, the head of the Presidential Communications Office, although there has been advanced information regarding the supposed resignation of FVR, he is still much needed by the country to deal with China in the middle of the better relations between the two countries.

Andanar emphasized that the expertise of FVR is very much needed to help the Philippines to talk with its Communist neighbor.

FVR and Duterte
The friendship of Ramos and Duterte has already spanned for decades.

“We have not received PFVR’s resignation. Moreover, it is not true that the former president can no longer have any role in our engagement with China. His stature and expertise are needed now, more than ever, to follow up and bike on what President Duterte accomplished during his recent visit to China”, said the Communications secretary.

FVR was appointed by Duterte as the special envoy of the Philippines in China, shortly after he assumed office in July.

Ramos was directed by Duterte to make discussions with China in connection to the tension between neighbor countries in the disputed island in the West Philippine Sea (also South China Sea).

“I’ve done my job to… break the ice and to help restore the ties of goodwill and friendship”, said Former President FVR.

Ramos has recently issued statements chiding the President for his remarks and stand over some issues involving the relationship of the Philippines and other countries like the United States.

One of the most recent is the chiding of Ramos on Duterte’s remarks on the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change where Philippines is one of the signatories.

But despite of the comments of FVR, the Palace thanked him for his wisdom and takes his advice as a guide of the current administration.
