Five Injured In Acid Throwing In Hong Kong

An acid throwing was recorded in a market in Hong Kong and fiver were reportedly injured.

Not all that pours can make us wet because in To Kwa Wan in Hong Kong, at least five people were burned when acid chemicals were thrown from a building.

It is believed that someone dropped acid from a high floor of a hotel that was near the To Kwa Wan Market.

A certain Shum said that at around 8 AM she felt something was pouring saying, “It was almost like rain” and suddenly she realized that her skin was burning and also a dozen others were feeling that way, too.

The acid splashing was said to have lasted for 30 minutes and flung three times.

It was reported that among the injured was a female tourist from Guangxi province. The mainland woman was waiting for other members of her tour group when she took a hit.

The woman said she had no clue about what was happening until she saw blisters on her arm.

Some of the victims were burned on their foreheads, while others were burned on their arms.

A domestic helper named Vivi, who was burned on the shoulder, said, “I’d just bought some groceries when I felt what I thought was water dripping on me, but my shoulder suddenly started to hurt […] and [the liquid] burned a hole in my shirt. I was a bit scared”.

Initial investigation of the police suggested that the liquid was thrown on the seventh floor of the O’ Hotel which is only several meters away from the market.

An inspection has been carried out within the hotel, and officers found traces of some unknown liquid on a window. No one has been arrested yet as the investigation is still ongoing.

Medical authorities had advised the public to be wary of their surroundings and for possible acid throwing attack.

In the event of corrosive liquid attacks, one should flush the affected skin area with water for ten minutes. Victims should also try to take off the clothing that is affected by the corrosive liquid.

One could suffer from swelling on the skin for a first-degree burn, while a second-degree burn could leave behind blisters and scars.

A third-degree burn would damage the dermis and lead to the destruction of sensory receptors, and would require skin grafting surgeries.
