Senators Awaits Arrests as Plunder Charges Filed at Sandiganbayan

The three Philippine Senators who were involved in the pork barrel controversy is now awaiting arrests as the Office of the Ombudsman lodged the plunder charges to Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., on Friday, June 6, 2014.

According to the plunder charges filed by the Office of the Ombudsman, the three Senators or the principal respondents were found to have committed plunder with businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles as co-conspirator.

Janet Lim Napoles together with Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla were charged for embezzling Priority Development Assistance Funds within the years 2006 and 2010.

Based upon the Ombudsman’s Grant Investigation and Prosecution Office, they indicated that Senator Bong Revilla pocketed P224.51 million, Senator Estrada is believed to have amassed P183.79 million, and Senator Juan Ponce Enrile earned P172.83 million in kickbacks.

Aside from the three Senators charged by the Office of the Ombudsman, Sen. Revilla’s Chief-of-staff Richard Gambe, Enrile’s former aide Gigi Reyes and Sen. Estrada’s former aid Pauline Labayen were also charged by the Ombudsman.

The Plunder Charges against the Senators and their aids reportedly arrived at the Sandiganbayan with boxes of evidences brought by a Representative from the Ombudsman. The Pluncder Case is expected to be raffled off next Friday, June 13, 2014.
