DepEd Increased Tuition Fee Subsidy for Grade 7 Students

The Philippine Government through the Department of Education (DepEd) announced that they will increase the tuition fee subsidy for Grade 7 students. The number of slots under the ESC scheme is now up by 24 percent.

Through the ESC (Education Service Contracting), the Government subsidizes the tuition fee of students are enrolled in private secondary schools due to the overcrowding problems encountered by public high schools.

For the participating schools in Metro Manila, they will be given a P10,000 subsidy per student while those who are in the provinces or outside the National Capital Region will receive P6,500 subsidy from the government.

The DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro also stated that the slots for Education Service Contracting has been increased from 250,896 in S.Y. 2012-2013 to 310,709 in S.Y. 2013-2013.

The Education Department adds further that the total number of slots comprises the actual number of grantees in the previous school year and the additional slots in areas where there are serious overcrowding.
