Andi Eigenmann Shares Why Being a Nepo Baby Was Never Easy
ANDI EIGENMANN – Former actress Andi Eigenmann is making headlines after openly discussing how being born into a famous family affected both her career and mental health.
Former actress Andi Eigenmann openly acknowledged that she is a “nepo baby,” reflecting on the pressures that came with growing up in one of the Philippines’ most well-known showbiz families.
The term “nepo baby” refers to children or relatives of politicians and celebrities who are believed to have gained opportunities or advanced their careers because of their family connections. The phrase became widely discussed in the Philippines following the controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in flood control projects, as several relatives of politicians drew attention on social media for flaunting their expensive lifestyles.
Andi spoke candidly about the topic during the latest episode of broadcaster-journalist Karen Davila’s vlog, which aired on Saturday, July 18. Karen traveled to Siargao to interview the former actress, who has been living a quieter life away from the entertainment industry.
During the conversation, Karen asked Andi about the most difficult part of being a child star and growing up in the spotlight.
“I don’t think that I noticed it that time. But it’s the pressure. Because obviously, I mean, technically, I am a nepo baby,” said Andi.
She went on to explain that carrying the label placed even greater expectations on her as she tried to establish her own identity in the entertainment industry instead of simply being known as the daughter of famous parents.
“Before that time, when I was starting out, it was more of like because I was one, there’s even more pressure to really prove that I’m more than just a child, that I can make a name for myself, that I’ve got what it takes, that I deserve to be here.”
According to the former actress, the pressure eventually took a toll on her mental health. Rather than experiencing a typical childhood, she grew up under the public eye while balancing the responsibilities that came with being a working celebrity. She shared that those expectations affected her as she matured and tried to navigate both her personal life and career.
Andi began acting when she was just 17 years old. She is the daughter of acclaimed actors Jaclyn Jose and Mark Gil, making her part of one of the country’s most recognized acting families.
Although she has since stepped away from showbiz and embraced a more private life in Siargao, Andi’s honest admission offers a glimpse into the emotional challenges that can come with privilege, family legacy, and the constant need to prove one’s worth beyond a famous surname.
