DOJ Dismisses Annabelle Rama’s Cyber Libel Case Against Jayke Joson
ANNABELLE RAMA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) ruled that Annabelle Rama-Gutierrez’s libel case against former actor-producer Jayke Joson be dropped for lack of reasonable cause.
The Department of Justice ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support Annabelle Rama-Gutierrez’s cyber libel claims against former actor-producer Jayke Joson. Prosecutors “erred in finding probable cause” against Joson, according to a DOJ decision published on February 22 and signed by DOJ secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
“The complaint against Respondent-Appellant [Joson] is hereby dismissed for lack of probable cause,” the DOJ resolution stated, referring to the resolution by the Quezon City Office of the City Prosecutor published on March 21, 2022.
Based on a report from Philstar, the DOJ instructed QC prosecutors to remove the pertinent information filed to Branch 90 of the QC Regional Trial Court within 10 days after receiving the resolution.
“[Joson] did not act with malice in issuing said remarks against [Rama],” the DOJ also stated in its resolution. “Considering the element of malice is not present, the instant case must be dismissed for lack of probable cause.”

According to the report, the issue began with Annabelle Rama accusing Jayke Joson of wrongdoing following back-and-forth arguments between the two camps on social media and in online news stories.
In retaliation, Joson filed a counter-affidavit in which he denied being involved in the publication of such information. Additionally, he made reference to Rama’s notoriety, claiming that his criticism of her “forms part of privilege communication.”
According to the DOJ, Joson did not intentionally make the insults against the former actress and talent manager. “The remarks of the Respondent-Appellant [Joson] were not defamatory. On the contrary, Joson was able to present the documentary proof on which he based his statements upon,” it added.
The DOJ also pointed out that a number of news websites had previously reported on Joson’s revelations of Rama’s pending cases, which was one of the issues mentioned by Rama in her lawsuit.
For his part, Joson welcomed the DOJ’s decision.
