Officials Confirm Another Strong Earthquake Jolts Turkey-Syria Border Region

Another strong earthquake with 6.4 magnitude jolted the border region between Turkey and Syria again following the 7.8 magnitue earthquake last week.

Turkey and Syria have yet to recover from the impact of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that jolted its cities around two (2) weeks ago. The said unexpected incident has left at least 47,000 people dead.

It was around 4:00 a.m. when the strong quake rocked Turkey and Syria. Many people were still on their beds and deep asleep when the shaking happened. It brought several homes and buildings down.

Rescue operations are ongoing for more than a week now in Turkey and Syria. Rescuers pull dead bodies buried from the debris of buildings and houses.

Just two weeks since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that is one of the most powerful earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria, another strong earthquake jolted the border region of the two (2) countries. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the recent quake had a magnitude of 6.4.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said that at least three (3) people died from this another strong earthquake that jolted the Turkey-Syria border region anew. More than 200 individuals were left injured.

DW correspondent Julie Hahn said that the tremor was felt for around 10 seconds. Some people ran out of buildings when the shaking happened and that’s when they knew that “it was a powerful one”. Based on the report, after the 6.4 magnitude quake, it was followed by a 5.8 magnitude tremor.

The mayor of Hatay reported that the quake cause the collapse of some structures. In Syria, the strong shaking caused the people to panic and there was stampede. The U.S. government pledged to help the countries affected by the quake “for as long as it takes”.
