Sister of OFW Victim of Earthquake in Turkey Speaks on Pinay’s Condition Now

SISTER OF OFEW RESCUED IN TURKEY – The sister of Julie Benlingan, a Pinay who was victimized by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey, gave an update about her condition.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria last week brought several buildings and households down. Many people died due to the said quake and rescue operations are still ongoing.

It was at around 4:00 a.m. when the earthquake brought strong shaking to different areas in Turkey and Syria. Many were deep asleep in their beds when homes and buildings crashed down and resulted to thousands of deaths.

The authorities previously feared that the number of deaths due to the quake will reach 20,000. However, now, amid the ongoing rescue operations, deaths have reached 35,000.

One of the victims of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria is an overseas Filipino worker identified as Julie Benlingan. Based on a previous post of Ted Regencia on Twitter, the Pinay was trapped in her apartment in Antakya in Turkey for 60 hours or more than two (2) days.

Recently, the sister of the OFW rescued in Turkey around 60 hours after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the country gave an update about the Pinay’s condition. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Maribel Benlingan Liyab and Julie were able to talk for around 2-3 minutes over the phone.

Julie is still being treated at the hospital but she is now out from the Intensive Care Unit. According to Maribel, her sister shared that she was able to grab a kitchen utensil which she kept on hammering as she called for a rescue. The sister of the OFW rescued in Turkey also expressed that the Pinay obtained a wound in her face and her feet are swollen.

Julie is a single mother who last went home to the Philippines in 2019. According to Maribel, her sister is planning to go home this June for the graduation of her 12-year-old child.
