Cops Arrest Male Suspect Who Pretends as ‘Sundo’ to Kidnap Toddler

QUEZON CITY – An innocent toddler has been nearly kidnapped by a male suspect who pretended as ‘sundo’ at school.

The CCTV footage shows a male suspect wearing a black jacket, shorts, bonnet, and backpack roaming around the school vicinity. The guy introduced himself as ‘sundo’ of the five-year-old kid, according to Novaliches Police Station chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Von June Nuyda.

“Nung tinatanong nung titser kung sino yung sundo nung biktima, sumagot yung suspek na siya raw yung kaniyang daddy. So nakuha niya yung bata,” Nuyda said.

The victim bursts into tears and cried after the suspect took him. Other parents also noticed the suspicious action of the culprit. The suspect identified as Michael Buenaventura immediately escaped after his modus has been discovered.

The barangay officials and the police authorities were able to arrest Buenaventura.

According to the school security guard, they have received reports regarding the suspect knocking in various houses to ask for financial help. Some parents also accused the suspect of nearly abducting their kids.

The culprit will face charges of abduction in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

However, Buenaventura denied the accusations against him and explained that he was just joking. “Hindi po totoo iyon. Hindi ko nga po nahawakan yung bata. Ang layo-layo ko,” Buenaventura said.

Based on the investigation, the suspect has pending charges of child abuse and involvement in illegal drugs. The latter is currently under the custody of the Quezon City Police District.
