DICT Suggests Digital National ID for Pinoys amid the Actual Cards Printing
DIGITAL NATIONAL ID – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is pushing for it amid the pending printing of cards.
A valid identification card or ID is one of the things that are always present in the requirements list for different transactions. It is usually required in applying for a loan, getting a certain government document, availing a benefit from a social insurance institution, etc.
Most ID cards have validity and must be renewed from time to time. Undeniably, there are also instances when getting a card could be burdensome to some individuals most especially to those who are working or have busy schedules.
Under the Duterte administration, one of the significant moves was the push for a national ID or PhilSys ID. It is like a general ID for Filipinos that is mandated to be recognized across different government agencies.
Amid the pandemic, millions of Filipinos registered for their national IDs. The IDs include several information including the fingerprints, iris color, and signature of the bearer. However, not everyone has already received their national IDs.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, amid the pending printing of the actual cards, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is pushing for a digital national ID. According to DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, it is easier to issue than the actual cards.
The digital national ID, according to Uy, may be available on the bearer’s mobile phone. He stressed that proper authentication would be done and the bearer has a way of verifying it and validating it through an app. He stressed it as an option “to activate the National ID as quickly as possible” and can help in the distribution of government assistance to the Filipinos.
Currently, the national government has yet to react to the push for a digital national ID. More updates may be posted soon.
