Banks Rejecting National ID Due To “Lack Of Signature”

National ID Holders Complain Banks Rejecting Card Because No Signature Contained

BANKS REJECTING NATIONAL ID – For the first time, the Philippines has created a unified ID system for the masses.

The National ID System was created to become an all-in ID for all Filipinos. However, when some holders tried to make transactions in some banks, they got rejected due to a lack of signature.

This urged the Philippine Statistics Authority to remind both government and private sectors that the National ID is a valid ID. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Deputy National Statistician Assistant Sec. Rose Bautista said:

The complaints we received is that because it does not have a signature, so it’s the reason why the users or the agencies to whom it is presented do not recognize it because of the lack of signature

Furthermore, she emphasized that the Philippines has built a culture that deemed signatures an important aspect of an official ID. But, he stressed that the National ID specifically did not include a signature as it is “very easy to fake”.

Following this, Bautista said her agency would conduct webinars for financial institutions in the Philippines. With this, the Philippine Statistics Authority aims to address issues and misconceptions regarding the national ID.

Currently, 28 million Filipinos have completed their biometrics requirements for the national ID, the second step in registration. Meanwhile, over 700,000 national ID cards have been delivered across the Philippines.

According to the Philippines Identification System Act, a single national ID shall be provided for all Filipinos and resident aliens. Furthermore, the ID would serve as a valid proof of identity aimed at simplifying transactions.
