DENR Tells Dolomite Patrons Who Went Last Sunday To “Self-Quarantine”

DOLOMITE PATRONS – The controversial “Dolomite Beach” was flooded with visitors last Sunday prompting the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to ask those who went to self-quarantine.

According to bay officials, the number of people who went to the beach last Sunday went up to the thousands. As such,  Manila Bay Coordinating Office executive director Jacob Meimban said:

We did plan to have the number of people limited there but we did not expect such overwhelming numbers that came

Because of the sheer number of individuals who visited the beach, many fear that this may cause another COVID-19 outbreak. With the massive crowd, social distancing was close to abysmal and netizens cited several health protocol violations amongst the visitors.

In lieu of the incident, DENR Undersecretary Benny Antipodra stated that those who visited last Sunday should “Self-Quarantine”.

During a press briefing, he said that the visitors should quarantine themselves “just to keep them safe”. “Mag-quarantine sila sa sarili nila, mag-self quarantine muna sila to make sure na wala silang nakuhang sakit doon sa nangyaring yun noong Sunday“, he stated.

Due to last Sunday’s turn-out, Bay officials and local government units said they would pen new protocols to address the number of visitors. Previously, the beach was opened to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Afterward, it would open again from 3-6 p.m. However, officials are eying to close the beach on Weekends to prevent overcrowding. Furthermore, minors are also banned from going to the beach.
