Here’s What Happened to Kabang After the Incident
KABANG – The horse seen being dragged by a moving pickup truck in Misamis Oriental in February 2026, is now safe and recovering well.
The incident happened along the Gingoog–Claveria–Villanueva Road and was recorded by concerned citizens. The videos showed the horse struggling to keep up with the moving vehicle before collapsing onto the road when the pickup stopped. The footage quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism and concern from the public.
The horse’s owner claimed that Kabang was only being trained and denied abusing the animal. However, many people did not accept this explanation. Animal welfare organizations, including PETA Asia and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), stated that the horse had been mistreated and that the incident violated the Animal Welfare Act.
After investigating the case, PETA Asia found that Kabang had been forced to run about 25 kilometers while tied to the moving pickup truck. The organization also discovered that the ranch where the horse was kept did not have a valid license. Working with the local government of Misamis Oriental, PETA Asia rescued Kabang and took legal custody of the horse. A veterinary examination showed that Kabang had developed a limp and needed immediate medical care. The former owner was later permanently banned from owning animals.
Kabang was then transported to Batangas in a horse trailer and truck. The six-day trip included travel by roll-on/roll-off ferry. After arriving, the horse received treatment for hip pain, swollen legs, and other injuries caused by the incident.
Today, Kabang’s condition has greatly improved. According to the latest updates from PETA Asia, the horse is healthy, receiving proper medical care, and living in a safe and loving home with veterinarian Dr. Steve Ternura, who personally accompanied Kabang throughout the rescue journey. After surviving a painful experience that shocked many people, Kabang is finally living a peaceful and comfortable life with the care and protection every animal deserves.
