Award-Winning Writer Jerry Gracio Criticizes MMDA Officer’s Handling of Traffic Violators

Award-winning writer Jerry Gracio slams Gabriel Go over his practice of recording videos while apprehending traffic violators.

Recently, Jerry B. Grácio, a Facebook user, shared his opinion regarding Gabriel Go’s video recording during MMDA operations. The post quickly went viral and garnered various reactions online.

Gracio said he supports the enforcement of traffic laws and agrees that motorists who violate regulations should be held accountable. However, he expressed concern over what he described as an approach that appears disrespectful and humiliating, especially when dealing with ordinary citizens and professionals such as teachers.

The issue stemmed from a recent incident involving a teacher who was apprehended for not wearing a helmet while driving. Gracio argued that while the violation was clear, enforcing the law should not involve actions that could be seen as public shaming.

The writer stressed that people should be treated with dignity regardless of their profession or status.

Gracio also called on teachers’ groups and organizations to speak out against what he believes is inappropriate treatment during traffic operations. He emphasized that discipline and law enforcement should always be carried out with professionalism and respect.

Another issue raised in his post involved the use of videos taken during MMDA operations. Gracio questioned whether such recordings should be used as online content, recalling past controversies involving similar incidents.

The latter pointed out that concerns about filming apprehensions had already been raised before and wondered whether existing policies regarding the practice had changed.

The writer also compared the handling of different individuals in separate incidents, arguing that some violators appeared to have been treated differently from others.

The video has a caption:

“Noon pang 2025, ipinagbawal na ng MMDA ang pag-vlog ng operations dahil din kay Gabriel Go. Nagka-problema si Go dahil ipinahiya niya ang isang pulis, nag-react pati ang NAPOLCOM. Nagbago na ba ang patakaran ng MMDA? Kung hindi, bakit panay ang post ni Go ng operations niya? Teacher naman ang ipinahiya niya. Para saan? For the content? For the clout? Kung gusto niya ng content, mag-resign siya sa MMDA, mag vlogger na lang siya full time”

The social media users expressed their reactions to the post
