45 Tricycle Drivers in Kalibo Fined for Not Wearing New Uniforms

TTMD Fines 45 Tricycle Drivers for Not Wearing New Uniforms

Around 45 tricycle drivers in Kalibo, Aklan were issued tickets after they were caught operating without wearing the newly required uniforms.

The penalties came as local authorities began strictly enforcing an ordinance that mandates a new official uniform for tricycle drivers in the town.

According to the Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD), the policy is based on Ordinance No. 2025-011, which approved the use of a new sublimation uniform in December 2025.

Although the ordinance was approved several months ago, authorities delayed its implementation to give drivers enough time to prepare and adjust to the new requirement.

Officials explained that the enforcement was postponed during the franchise renewal period from January to March to avoid adding another burden on drivers. They also noted that many drivers and Transport Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) officers had long requested a replacement for the old blazer-style uniform, leading to the approval of the updated design.

The TTMD said TODA presidents were informed in advance that the full implementation of the policy would begin on July 13. Despite this, dozens of drivers were still found operating without the required attire during inspections.

Authorities learned that many of the drivers who received tickets were not members of any TODA. Because they were not affiliated with an association, some may not have received information about the new policy right away.

TODA officials also explained that drivers usually need to be members of an association before they can process and obtain the official uniform.

Even with these concerns, the TTMD maintained that sufficient time had been given for drivers to comply with the ordinance. Officials stressed that the policy had been announced months before enforcement began.

Under the existing ordinance, any tricycle driver caught operating without the proper uniform faces a fine of P1,000. Authorities continue to remind drivers to follow the regulations to avoid penalties and help maintain order and professionalism in public transportation services across Kalibo.
