Metro Manila and four (4) provinces are under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened measures until July 31, 2021.
The Philippines’ fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is intensified now amid the threats of the Delta variant, a variant of concern for its higher transmissibility rate. The said coronavirus variant is currently spreading in several other nations and that is what PH is trying to prevent to happen in the country.
First recorded in India, the Delta variant placed the people in India in a devastating situation. A lot of people got infected leading to hospitals reaching their full capacities and running out of resources for the treatment. Many died of COVID-19 in the country.
Currently, Indonesia is also being hit by the Delta variant. Many countries are temporarily banning travelers from Indonesia, India, and several other countries with high cases of the said coronavirus variant.

One of the countries that recorded cases of COVID-19 Delta variant is the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) even confirmed a local transmission of the said variant of concern. Undeniably, many are alarmed by it and some groups are calling for stricter community quarantine measures to prevent another outbreak.
On the part of some business groups, they are hoping that things won’t lead to another shutting down of the economy. The health authorities previously expressed that it is not impossible that the Delta variant will infect people in the country and what must be considered is the preparedness.
Amid the threats of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Metro Manila and the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte are currently placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with “heightened restrictions”.
The heightened restrictions include the reduction of the capacity of restaurant dine-ins and personal care clinics to 20-30% from 50%. Only 10% of the venue capacity is allowed for religious gatherings but the LGU may increase it. The said measure in Metro Manila and four (4) other provinces will expire on July 31, 2021. Vaccinations are still ongoing now to achieve population protection.
