Update on Delta Variant of COVID-19 in the United States

DELTA VARIANT – The cases of COVID-19 in the United States continues to increase and the said variant is detected in most of it.

It has been more than a year now since the COVID-19 pandemic started shaking healthcare systems across the globe. The World Health Organization (WHO) was alarmed by how fast it spread and warned countries not to let their guards down early to prevent another wave of the said coronavirus disease.

One of the countries hit hard by COVID-19 is the United States. It has recorded the most cases of coronavirus and former President Donald Trump was even vocal of blaming China, where the virus was reportedly recorded first, over the pandemic.

It was in the first quarter of 2021 when most vaccination drives in different countries started. Several brands including Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Pfizer, Sinpharm, and Sputbik V were developed.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, U.S. is one of the countries with the highest availability of the COVID-19 vaccines. However, it also reported a lag in the vaccination since April.

Amid the vaccination drive, based on the report, the COVID-19 cases in U.S. continues to increase. The Delta variant which is currently the variant of concern was also detected in a huge part of the said cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the seven-day average of new cases as of July 6, 2021 is at 13,859. It is 21% higher compared to the records two (2) weeks ago.

According to CDC, 52% of the COVID-19 cases recorded for two (2) weeks ending in July 3 were of Delta variant. The said coronavirus variant was first recorded in India and brought the country to a devastating situation. Currently, several countries are implementing travel restrictions to prevent the entry of the said variant of concern.
