Manila Police Built Drive-thru Community Pantry to Help Drivers on Labor Day
A drive-thru community pantry was built in the commemoration of Labor Day 2021 by the Manila Police District Station 4 to help drivers.
As a gesture of appreciation, Manila Police District Station 4 in Sampaloc set up a drive-thru neighborhood pantry for drivers on Labor Day. The target beneficiaries, according to Police Capt. Philipp Ines, Administrative Officer of the Sampaloc Police Station, were jeepney, taxi, and tricycle drivers, and all passers-by were given free breakfast and food packs.

There were also drivers who waited in line but did not arrive with their vehicles first, but still helped. Soup, eggs, toast, and bottled water were included in the food package. In addition, they were given rice, noodles, and canned goods.
He said, “It’s a tribute to the working classes who are lined up here in transportation, where we have seen their contribution to society.” Aside from the assistance, there was a raffle with the drivers, with the reward being equal to their daily boundary.
Many people were overjoyed because they had got so much. One of the jeepney drivers expressed his dissatisfaction with his current condition as a driver because he is unable to sleep every day.
“Alternate po ‘yung biyahe namin tapos 50% na laman lang dahil sa social distancing. Talagang kulang na kulang sa pangangailangan namin,” he said.
