DOH Speaks About MECQ in NCR Plus Areas
DOH – The Department of Health (DOH) revealed its side on the implementation of Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in NCR Plus.
Almost everyone now is eager to get to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been more than a year now since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a pandemic and restrictions are still up amid the ongoing fight.
Unfortunately, amid the original fight against the spread of COVID-19, several variants of the coronavirus disease were detected. It doubled the challenge to many countries. Over 200 nations and territories across the globe have recorded cases of coronavirus.
The Philippines is one of the countries that logged variants of COVID-19. Currently, the National Capital Region (NCR) and the provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite are under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Previously, the said areas that are collectively called as the NCR Plus was placed under ECQ for several days. A surge in the cases of COVID-19 took place after several days now of recording at least 7,000 new cases of the disease daily.
The implementation of the MECQ in NCR Plus is about to reach the end period. Many await the national government’s decision on whether to retain the quarantine measure or modify it.
The Department of Health (DOH) spoke its side on the MECQ implementation in the NCR Plus. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III believes that the MECQ must be continued for another week or two.
According to the DOH Chief, the capacity in the health system has not improved a lot and the MECQ must be continued to really see the lowering of the cases of COVID-19 in the country. He cited pursuit for a reverse of the trend.
Based on the report, the IATF is set to talk about the quarantine measure on Tuesday. The Metro Manila mayors have yet to air their stand on the quarantine measure and the health department stressed that there is really a need to decongest the hospitals.
Many hospitals have already reached their full capacity. The total COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has already surpassed the one (1) million mark.
