WHO Says Not To Waste Vaccines As 3rd Or 4th Surges May Still Happen

DON’T WASTE VACCINES – The World Health Organization (WHO) says that countries shouldn’t be too lax with health protocols once they get the vaccines.

“The arrival of vaccine is a moment of great hope. But it potentially also is a moment where we lose concentration

WHO emergencies director Michael Ryan emphasized that although vaccines bring great hope, it could also cause a lost of focus. “We should not waste the hope that vaccines bring… by dropping our guard in other areas“, he said.

Recently, the COVAX global vaccine-sharing facility shiped over 20 million vaccines to 20 countries including the Philippines. Currently, the Philippines has began rolling out its vaccination programs.

In lieu of this, the government now eyes easing quarantine restrictions on a nationwide level. However, the recent detection of new, more contagious variants could spell catastrophe if left unattended.

According to the OCTA research group, a prime example of this scenario could be seen in Pasay City. After detecting six cases of the new South African COVID variant, OCTA observed an “overwhelming” surge in cases.

Furthermore, they said that the spread of the new variants may be among the reasons for the outbreak. Meanwhile, the Department of Health said that they would prioritize isolating cases linked to the new strains.
