Update on Cases of South African Variant of COVID-19 in PH
SOUTH AFRICAN VARIANT OF COVID-19 – The Department of Health (DOH) recorded new cases of the said coronavirus variant.
Unfortunately, amid the many countries and territories including the Philippines fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, several new variants or mutations of the coronavirus disease were recorded in the different nations.
Among those countries that logged cases of new variants of COVID-19 were South Africa and the United Kingdom. Several other countries outside these nations recorded cases of these variants, too.
In the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) detected both the South African variant of COVID-19 and the U.K. variant of COVID-19.

Recently, DOH gave an update on the cases of the South African variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN, the Health Department logged 52 new cases of the said mutation of coronavirus.
Following the recent addition, there is now a total of 58 cases of the South African variant of COVID-19 in the country. Based on the report, among the new cases recorded, 41 patients have address within Metro Manila.
The authorities are still checking on whether there is a local case or individuals from abroad among the 11 patients. DOH has not confirmed local transmission of the said variant of coronavirus in the country.
Out of the 58 total cases of the said variant of COVID-19, only one is not considered as an active case. More updates may be posted soon.
