COVID-19 Spread in Passi City Traced to Gov’t Worker Who Owns Stall in the Market, According to Iloilo Town Mayor
Iloilo town Mayor Stephen Palmares said that the COVID-19 spread in Passi City market has been traced to a government worker owning a stall.
On Saturday (January 30, 2021), Mayor Palmares said that the local government’s mass testing and contact tracing efforts showed that the transmission in the Passi City public market has been traced to a government employee who owns a stall in the market.
The government officials discovered the root of transmission in the areas two days after the city has been placed under an enhanced community quarantine. 220 out of 650 market vendors have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Saturday.
“While we were conducting the mass testing sa employees, may nakita po kaming nag-positive na employee na may isang stall sa Passi Public Market. Noong nag-contact tracing kami, may contact siya na 7 market vendors na nag-positive so na-alarm kami. So ginawa natin last Tuesday, we imposed a lockdown sa Passi City public market at lahat ng market vendors 650 market vendors ay ano natin pina-swab lahat “ Palmares said.
Passi City has been placed under ECQ last January 28 and would end on February 11, 2021 after numerous vendors tested positive for COVID-19. The authorities continue to conduct contact tracing efforts while the security remains tight in the area.
