Poor Guy Begging Along EDSA After Losing Job to COVID-19 Pandemic Earns Public’s Sympathy

The heartbreaking photo of a poor guy asking alms along EDSA in Pasay City after losing his job due to COVID-19 goes viral.

Since last year, the coronavirus pandemic has been affecting millions of people in different countries all around the world. The health crisis does not only affect the public’s health but also the global economy.

The Department of Labor and Employment reported that the COVID-19 pandemic left around four million Filipino employees jobless as of December 2020.

The Facebook page “Philippine Star” has shared the heartbreaking photo of a poor guy asking alms along the corner of Roxas Boulevard and EDSA in Pasay City. The photo earned sympathy from the online community.

In the photo, it can be seen that the guy is holding a placard telling the public that he needs help after losing his job due to the coronavirus pandemic. It may ruined his dignity as a man but it would fill the stomach of his family.

The placard has words written:

“I am not a bad person, I lost my job cause of COVID-19 pandemic guys, I’m begging for your help please help me provide the needs of my family I (might) lose my dignity being a man but with your help I will regain it in the eyes of my children”
