Catriona Gray, Pia Wurtzbach Joins Call To Junk Anti-Terror Bill
ANTI-TERROR BILL – Miss Universe titleholders Catriona Gray and Pia Wurtzbach joined the online call to junk the ‘Anti-Terrorism’ bill.
The Anti-Terror Bill aims to toughen the anti-terrorism policies of the government. 173 lawmakers of the House of Representatives supported the controversial bill. Now, it only needs to be signed by Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Lots of people were alarmed why the 75-year-old chief executive prioritized it amid the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He said, “address the urgent need to strengthen the law on anti-terrorism in order to adequately and effectively contain the menace of terrorist acts for the preservation of national security and the promotion of general welfare.”
The Anti-terror bill met with criticisms from the Filipino netizens including celebrities like Enchong Dee, Solenn Heussaff, and Nadine Lustre. They are worried that the government might abuse their power.
In a previous article, a Filipino Swiftie shared a screenshot of Taylor Swift’s Instagram Story. It appeared that the American superstar posted the “Junk Terror Bill” petition on her social media account.
