WHAT ARE MANSANITAS? – The Philippines is home to an abundance of fruits due to its vast biodiversity and rich lands.
In this article, we are going to talk about the fruit locals would call “Man-Sa-Ni-Tas”. The word “man-sa-ni-tas” is derived from the Tagalog word “Mansanas” or apple.
There has also been some debate that the mansanitas and aratilis fruit are the same. However, this is not the case.
Aratiles is a soft, sweet, and looks like a cherry. It is also juicy and comes in red and yellowish brown. Meanwhile the “mansanitas” is a little bigger and has exactly look like a miniature version of an apple.
The scientific name of the fruit is Rhamnus jujuba and Zizyphus mauritiana.
This fruit also has several health benefits such as anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, it also lower uric acid levels and is a great antioxidant!
