Students in Zamboanga Struggle w/ Rising Fare Due to Fuel Price Increase
Several students from a university in Zamboanga City struggle to get to school as transportation fares continue to increase.
The steady increase in fuel prices has made commuting more difficult, especially for those with limited budgets.
Many of these students shared that their daily allowance is no longer enough to cover transportation costs. Because of this, they are left with few choices. Some choose to endure long walks, while others try their luck by asking for free rides from passing drivers.

The situation has become even harder as fewer vehicles are available, making it more difficult to find a ride.
Recently, five female students caught attention online after running out of fare on their way home, they decided to write a simple message on a piece of paper asking for a ride. They held up the sign along the roadside, hoping someone would notice and help them get home safely.
One of the students, Christine Joy Cabayao, shared that they came up with the idea out of desperation. With very few vehicles passing by and no money left for fare, they felt they had no other option but to try and ask for help in that way.

As transportation costs increases, students are forced to make difficult decisions just to continue their education.
