Zamboanga Del Sur Clash Ended With 2 Suspected Rebels Killed
ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR – A clash between government troops and rebels which occurred in Midsalip town in the province has left with two suspected rebels killed.
Major Arvin Encinas, spokesperson of Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom), said that troops from the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion were doing a combat patrol when they had a clash with communist rebels in Sitio Pisyo, Barangay Balonai, according to an article from GMA News.
The clash lasted for about 25 minutes, Encina added. He said that as the troops cleared the area, they found two bodies of suspected communist rebels, two AK-47 firearms, and a backpack, the two bodies were removed for proper disposition.
As per the report, Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, chief of WestMinCom, praised the troops of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan for its recent accomplishment against the rebels.
“Rest assured that we will disallow these terror groups to thrive in the communities by exhausting all our capabilities,”
Major General Gene Ponio, major of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan urged the residents in the said area to remain vigilant and report the presence of suspicious people to authorities.
