Months Of The Year – What Are The 12 Months? (ANSWER)
MONTHS OF THE YEAR – In this topic, we are going to learn and identify the following twelve months of the year.
A whole year, 365 and a quarter day, to be precise, is divided into months, depending on which calendar. The months that we are going to identify are based on the Gregorian calendar which is now internationally used and accepted as the modern day calendar.
Based on the Gregorian calendar, according to Time and Date, there are 12 months, each are 28, 30, or 31 days long. Every 4 years, there is a leap year, where an additional day has added in on that year.
As of this writing, the year 2020 is the most current leap year, with the next being 2024.
Here are the following 12 months:
- January
- The first month and is named after Janus, the two-faced Roman god of doors, and the month represents the door to the new year. It has 31 days.
- February
- The second month and the shortest, with only 28 days. The additional day during leap year is added here, making it 29 days during that year. It is named after Latin word februum or februa, a spring festival of washing and purification.
- March
- The third month and is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. Here begins spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. It has 31 days.
- April
- The fourth month and is named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. It is also derived from the Latin word aperit, which means to open. It is known as the month of growing season and where trees and plants begin to “open”. It has 30 days.
- May
- The fifth month named after the Greek goddess Maia, one of the seven Pleiades, and is known by Romans as the goddess of fertility. It has 31 days.
- June
- The sixth month named after the Roman goddess of wife and marriage Juno. It has 30 days.
- July
- The seventh month and is named after Julius Caesar. It was formerly known as Quintilis in the ancient Roman calendar. It has 31 days.
- August
- The eighteenth month of the year and is named after Augustus Caesar. It was formerly known as Sextilis in the ancient Roman calendar. It has 31 days.
- September
- The first of the four Ber months and the ninth month. It was the former seventh month of the Roman calendar as the name suggests. It has 30 days.
- October
- The second of the four Ber months and the tenth month. It was the former eighth month of the Roman calendar as the name suggests. It has 31 days.
- November
- The third of the four Ber months and the eleventh month. It was the former ninth month of the Roman calendar as the name suggests. It has 30 days.
- December
- The last of the four Ber months and the last month. It was the former tenth month of the Roman calendar as the name suggests. It has 31 days.
