Death Toll From Wuhan Coronavirus Overtakes SARS In China
WUHAN CORONAVIRUS OVERTAKES SARS – The number of deaths caused by the Wuhan Coronavirus had surpassed that of the 2003 SARS epidemic in China.
More than 360 people have dies due to the deadly virus. Along with this, over 17, 205 people have been infected.
In Contrast, the SARS outbreak had infected only 5,327 people in mainland China and cause 349 deaths.
According to an article from CNN, there are currently 175 cases that have been confirmed outside of China. Meanwhile in the Philippines, the first death due to the virus had been confirmed.
Because of this, the Philippines had closed all transportation to and from China, Macao, and Hong Kong. However, those who have permanent Philippine Residency Visas are allowed entry.
But, those who opt to return to the Philippines must undergo a mandatory 14 day quarantine.
Along with the Philippines, almost all of the countries hit by the virus have closed their borders to Chinese tourists.
Currently, health authorities and government bodies are in a race to contain the virus. With this, doctors from Thailand have claimed to have successfully treated the virus.
According to Dr. Kriangsak Atipornwanich, a doctor at Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok, a combination of HIV and flu treatment is what cured the patients.
In relation, there are hospitals in Beijing that have previously used the same methodology of treatment. However, it was still unclear if they have been successful.
But, even with seemingly good news, another problem struck health authorities as patients’ fecal matter were detected to be positive for the virus as well.
This meant that it is highly possible that the virus could spread through contaminated fecal matter. Previously, it was thought that it could only be spread through coughs, sneezes, or other direct contact.
